The Hazelnut Hill hiking trail surrounds the lower part of Crescent Lake. This trail is suitable for all ages and can be broken into several different hiking experiences. Departing at the parking lot near Cressie, you can walk the short loop which takes you across to the upper part of the lake, along past the George Baker Bridge and back along the lower lake, through the RV park to your starting point. This short loop is 4.5 km long.

The Long loop, takes you across the George Baker Bridge and up to the top of Hazelnut Hill (428 ft), then down to Long Pond. After crossing the Long Pond Bridge, you follow the trail around the south edge of Crescent Lake to Tommy’s Arm River Bridge, and back through town to your starting point.

Another option for a short hike without as many stairs, is to start at the Tommy’s Arm River Bridge and make your way over to Long Pond. A round trip, over and back is about 4 km. If you choose to go to the lookout at the top of Hazelnut Hill you can add on an extra km, and a good leg workout.

Regardless of where you begin or end your hike, it would make the most enjoyable experience. But remember your camera and binoculars. From the lookout at the top, you have an excellent view of Crescent Lake, Long Pond, both bridges, Robert’s Arm, and out the bay, and of course the best view point to capture the first picture of Cressie, who sometimes appears in the summer.
